The City of Ballarat has a vision to create a circular economy business precinct in the Ballarat West Employment Zone. This precinct would focus on the aggregation of resource recovery efforts from parts of western Victoria and distribute quality sorted materials to existing businesses utilising recovered resources in their supply chains at a more localised level.

To facilitate the local adoption of circular economy practices, and with supporting funding from Sustainability Victoria, Ballarat City Council has commissioned Blue Environment to undertake a detailed material flows analysis for the city and surrounding region. The project will provide a better understanding of how resources are sourced and used in our economy, including the types and volumes of co-mingled recyclables, the current fate of those wastes, and opportunities for increased local manufacturing from recovered resources.
